ACR Accreditation

At Spine Institute of Central Florida, we want to make sure we provide our patients with the highest level of care and safety. That’s why we voluntarily get audited and certified by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.

The ACR Gold Seal of Accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and radiation safety. Among patients and physicians alike, the ACR accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in medical imaging. It is only awarded to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

What is the American College of Radiology?

The American College of Radiology is a group of 30,000 members that includes radiologists, radiation oncologists, and medical physicists. For over three quarters of a century, the ACR has devoted its resources to making imaging safe, effective, and accessible to those who need it.

The ACR’s mission is:

“To serve patients and society by maximizing the value of radiology, radiation oncology, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and medical physics by advancing the science of radiology, improving the quality of patient care, positively influencing the socio-economics of the practice of radiology, providing continuing education for radiology and allied health professions and conducting research for the future of radiology.”

Why should I have my imaging exam done at an accredited facility?

It is important to choose a facility carefully, and one good way to tell if a facility measures up is to find out if it is accredited by ACR. When you see the ACR gold seal, you can rest assured that the:

  • Facility has undergone a rigorous review process to ensure that it meets or exceeds nationally-accepted standards of care
  • Personnel are well qualified, through education and certification, to perform medical imaging, interpret your images, and administer your radiation therapy treatments
  • Equipment is assessed by a medical imaging expert who verifies that it functions properly, takes optimal images, and utilizes appropriate radiation dose levels

The gold seal also means that Dr. Okafor and the Spine Institute of Central Florida staff demonstrate our commitment to quality care and patient safety.
