Maria R. Otero-Suria, MD, Psy.D., MPH.

 

Dr. Maria R. Otero-Suria, MD, MPH, Psy.D as of 2017 has had 16 years of healthcare experience combined with outpatient and inpatient medical services, 12 years of experience in providing medical evaluations for psychiatric and physical illnesses. As of 2017, she also had 6 years experience in providing exceptional clinical psychological services.

 

Dr. Otero-Suria received her Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology in 1994 from the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, PR. She then went on to receive her Medical Doctor (M.D.) degree in 1998 from San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Dr. Otero-Suria then attended Carlos Albizu University in San Juan, PR and received her Masters of Science in Psychology in 2008. Dr. Otero-Suria then received her Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology in 2011 from Carlos Albizu University; a well-recognized Clinical Psychology program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).

 

From 2011 until joining Spine Institute of Central Florida, the highly distinguished Dr. Otero-Suria has worked as a well sought after medical consultant, licensed clinical psychologist, physician, physician-psychologist and post-doctoral psychologist.

 

She is Certified in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training; Treatment of Opioid Dependence; Clinical Training of the Fundamentals of Cognitive Therapy for Adolescents; Clinical Forensic Evaluation for Custody; Effective Clinical Approach for Substance Abuse and Dependence; Sexual Abuse Support Program for Children and their Families; to name a few. She has expertise in the most effective crisis intervention techniques, and early interventions for suicidal risk patients.

 

Dr. Otero-Suria is bilingual, and is very passionate about helping make a difference in the lives of her patients. She is well versed in the use of clinical psychological interventions to help reduce perceived pain in patients suffering from Chronic Pain, and help reduce reliance of opioid medications for pain control. She is also skilled in applying very effective clinical psychological interventions to help patients following minor or major injuries, better cope with each injury, and lead to the most effective treatment outcomes. She is one of the most well-rounded and trained Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the United States, and she is well positioned to provide much needed care to our diverse patient population.
